The Malibu chip
The Malibu chip is more known as the ‘longboard’. They
varied from 8 foot to 12 foot in length, a lot shorter than the olo. It
featured a fin, making it easier to carve on the wave. The 1956 Hollywood surf
film ‘Gidget’ exploded, appearing in every cinema on the globe. After the film,
the Malibu chip was a worldwide phenomenon.

The modern day surfboard
Todays modern
day surfboards are made out of fibreglass and come in all different colours,
shapes and forms. They are faster, smaller and lighter than ever. Modern day
surfboards feature 3 or 4 fins, making it easier to turn. They also feature a
leg rope – so your board doesn’t get swept away from you.
